It was a cold dark night and the wind was blowing something fiercely. An extra sweater probably wouldn’t have helped as the cold was driven right through you. I was told not to go out on a night like this and I know now that I should have listened! I am nineteen years of age and today is the year of nineteen hundred thirty four.
Shadows of fearful things were everywhere. My imagination was working overtime and I think I had an accident that I don’t want to mention. Yes, I have had the P--- scared out of me before but it was done quickly and with out a warning. Voices were telling me things that I didn’t want to hear, and why am I believing them! I’m sure there are no such things as ghosts or goblins and yet I am frightened almost to death. My short hairs are standing up like on a wire brush and my skin has a chill that is running from one end on my body to the other. Oh God, Please watch over me get me to where I am going safely. Are those shinny things I see in the dark, eyes that watching me? Why would anyone or anything want to hurt me? Oh god, there goes that ugly sound again, I would run, but my feet won’t move, If I could run, which way should I go! What if I ran straight in to whatever is after me? Oh mother of God, I should have listened to you!
I had a dream like this before, only I was falling from no-where to no-where. I’m sure you know what I mean. To this day, I have never told that to any one! It was such a long time ago, I can’t remember how old I was, but I was only a child. It was so real that I couldn’t go back to sleep that night and it was several nights later before I drifted off in a light sleep before I woke up screaming. Why am I remembering these things now?
Once, when I was a little guy, I dreamed I was bleeding and when I woke, I was. My mother never could figure out why, but I remember that I wasn’t scared, not like mother was! Stories had been handed down from one generation to the next, but can one believe them! It is said that back two hundred years ago, A tribe of people occupied this land. For some reason they left it and moved on. Years later, people were moving west when they came upon this same land and decided to stop their journey and settle on this prize section of ground. What ever these people did, it was fruitful and it was truly a land of plenty. Life was good to all and the families grew. Many years later, the people that occupied this land before, returned and found that others had taken the land. This first group of people decided they would reclaim this land and a started, a war. The war went on and on until one day they succeeded in annihilating each other and the land lay dormant for more than a hundred years.
Then along came two brothers that were French Canadian, wanting to locate to a new place to start a new life. One brother was married and had children and he brought them to this new land and began making a new life there. It wasn’t long after that, the man became sick and died. The widow and her children did not want to stay here so the brother escorted them to an established town somewhere in the east. The single brother made claim to the land and it now belonged to him.

The widow and her children did not want to stay here so the brother escorted them to an established town somewhere in the east. The single brother made claim to the land and it now belonged to him.
The brother began improving upon the land. It is said, that one day while plowing the land, something strange happened. From the broken ground, a dark cloud appeared, so thick one could not see into it. The foul smell was enough to make anyone close by, sick. Soon after, the single brother died and no one ever found his body as it was turning to dust some where.
Within a few years a new town was being built not far from this land, The town grew fast and the town was in need of more land. The town officials decided this property would be the perfect place for the expansion. They found that the land belonged to a French Canadian man, but no one really knew what had happened to him. They would check to be sure the land could be claimed by the town, but first they would have to advertise and see if anyone came forth to make a claim. A number of people said it belonged to them, and it took a few years to check this out, but no one ever came up with any proof.
There is an old dead tree with dead limbs that has stood there for more years than anyone can remember, It is said that this tree is where the remains of the single brother can be found. Now I am not going to tell the name of this town or where it is located . All I will say is; Don’t go out at night and if you do, don’t go out alone!
But back to the person that I am today. I just turned twenty two. My hair has turned to gray and I have wrinkles all over my body and have become become old before my time. “I will never go out alone at night again!” There is more than dancing shadows out there in the Dark………
