He is coming back and will be delivering milk and dairy products to your door again. Some of you will remember the horse pulling the wagon and then the Milk truck and the glass bottles that milk was in. It was fresh and had cream on the top of the milk. Mother always poured the cream off into another container or a cream pitcher and used it for special things.
Can you remember what real butter tasted like and those fresh eggs? You could trust the milk man when he gave you fresh products. Today you pick it up at the big grocery store and if you don’t check the date, it may be several days old. The date on the container will tell you to use it by a certain date, not when it was produced. If you would ask, the delivery man would even put the milk in your refrigerator for you.
I was listening to the news on a radio station and there was a story about a family of three generations that had operated their own Dairy farm in the east and are now milking 800 or so cows. Two of the brothers are delivering milk to the customers doors. And the customer list is growing really fast. They think this is going to catch on fast and grow beyond what it once was. Mr. Milk Man, take my order please!
Days gone by; A man came around and sharpened all you knives for a dollar.
Farmers would go door to door selling fruits and vegetables. Another came around and cleaned your chimney and charged you fifty cents an hour and cleaned up the mess.
The dry cleaning man would pick up your dry cleaning and bring it back to you.
Someone would mow your grass for the clippings.
Clear the side walks and drive way for very little.
The Grocer would take your order by phone and deliver them to you.
If you were baking and ran out of something, your neighbor would loan it to you.
Back yards fences were great for conversations with neighbors.
You doctor came to your house to treat you.
People came to your door to collect the bills and gave receipts.
Everyone on your street watched your kids. And you knew them all by their first name.
If you have never experienced this, you have never lived.
