"Tater Gator "

Tater Gator is a young Alligator that lived deep in the swamplands in Alabama. His family was a large family, it’s not really known, but with all the Uncles, Aunts and all the cousins, It could be in the hundreds, maybe thousands.

The first time I saw him, he was hanging upside down on a dock in the swamps. He had a problem with a leaky radiator and his system was being drained for repair. This wasn’t the first time that this had to be done, for young Tater Gator.

He was always swimming with his mouth wide open and was always running in to things that he couldn’t see. Tater Gator acted strange ( unlike other gators). He would show off by swimming backwards or sideways and even on his back, just to attract attention.

There were many times that Tater never came home at night, he would be gone for weeks at a time. He was never home by dark and when asked where he was, he never gave an answer.

Tater learned just about everything he knew from his older brother “Alley. Alley was always a problem”. Wild and claimed to be a free soul. He was a thief and a bully, Alley was planning to hold up the Gator Bank and was trying to get Tater to help him. Tater knew this was wrong and that he would be hunted down and no doubt go to prison, He could see no other way, but to report this to the Gator sheriff. He could only hope that Alley never found out who reported him to the sheriff.

One day Tater was swimming back and forth where children were playing. Of course the children saw Tater, They would holler at him and throw things at him as he went by. There were signs posted all along the banks at the water edge, that said: any Gator found up on these banks, would be dealt with severely! Well Tater had about all he could take and came up on the bank to scare the children away.

Tater is no longer with us, he never took the time to learn how to read. But parts of Tater can still be found here and there. He now looks like a Ladies Purse, A belt or two, some billfolds and some shoes.

Learn how to read and live a longer life…….
