It was a warm and beautiful day, The sky above was blue and there were a few large dark puffy clouds floating by. In a field of green, trees and bushes were waving back and forth in a gentle breeze. In this field, children were playing and under one very large hat, was the head of a pretty ten year old girl. This young girl kept scratching her head as something wasn’t quite right under that big hat, She had borrowed it from a brother who was much older.
It was getting close to lunch time and the children were hungry, so they all agreed to meet again after they had eaten lunch. While this girl with the big hat was at home, she told her mother that there was something in her hair that made here hair itch. The mother wasn’t able to see anything at first, but with a magnifying glass, she found the problem, and told the girl to go wash her hair before going back to play with her friends. What the mother found in the girls hair was, a group of fleas who were having a circus! The girl said to her mother, can I wait until later to wash my hair, as I have an idea. Then the girl took the magnifying glass and ran to meet her friends.
She told them all, that she had a flee circus going on in her hair and for only two cents, they could each have a few minutes to look at it, Well children don’t usually have any money on them, so they all ran home and got pennies out of their piggy banks. Then each kid got to see the flea circus until they all ran out of pennies. The young girl thought this was a great way to make some money and wanted to do it again tomorrow, Mother said: “No” it was getting washed today. That evening while the ten year old was getting a bath, she ask, “Oh please Mother”, let me keep them one more day, again mother said “NO”! The girl started to cry. as she cried, her dog was watching and put his head on her shoulder to comfort her, the flees all moved to the dog.
The next morning, the girl woke with clean hair and it was no longer itching, She had her breakfast and was ready to go play with her friends. That was when she noticed her dog scratching behind his ear. She thought to herself, could it be! could the flees have found the way to her dog? She looked at the dogs hair with the magnifying glass, and there they were, Only the number of fleas and the size of the flee circus had grown. This would be even better, now she could charge five cents or maybe even ten cents for someone to see the flee circus. If she could get a second or a third magnifying glass, she could make even more money.
But the children had no nickels or dimes, only pennies. So the girl dropped her price back to two cents and said if the kids were to pool their money, she would let three of them look at the flee circus for five cents. The morning went fast and by noon no one had any more money, with the exception of the ten year old girl. She had made one dollar & thirty three cents with the flea circus.
Well that afternoon, there was a hard rain and the dog was left out and he got so wet, the fleas must had all died from drowning and that was the end of the flea circus. Like all kids, once they get their hands on a little money, they want more.
Her next business would be a cold lemon and or orange juice drink stand. She thought this out very carefully and started to build the stand the next day. A couple of boxes with a board on the top, covered with a cloth and a cooler with ice, paper cups and of course napkins. Pitchers of Orange and Lemon drink sat on the counter a waiting the customers.
The first customer was a postman, he said the drink was good and ask, how much he owed. She had forgotten to make a sign with the price on it. The Postman gave her a quarter and thanked her. It was a long wait before the next customer that stopped, was a lady that lived just down the street. She said the drink was much too bitter and needed to be sweetened and a quarter was too much to pay. The price was dropped to a dime. She thought, she can put sugar on the counter and people can sweeten the taste if they thought it needed it, and she would tell the people to pay whatever they thought it was worth. Now this was a good move.
Most people would give a fifty cent piece, some gave a dollar, mostly it was a quarter. There were them that only gave a nickel and a dime. But the income from the stand was good and she put it all in the bank, the real bank not her piggy bank.
The summer went by fast and everyone was talking about school starting again. The young lady loved to go to school and was one of the better students in her class. She was elected as the class president and editor of the class paper. She took interest in everything and was liked by all the students. Then the school house was set on fire and burnt to the ground. She still says she didn’t do it, but there were witnesses and she did have burnt place on her hands! The teachers all voted for Obama, next time they will think first.
