When you have the time to think back over the years of your life, you try to recall those special years that were exciting and worth remembering. Most of those years when we were young, there was nothing special about them, so we tend to put them out of mind. The good times you will remember, the bad has no place in the life you are living today.
Now I am not saying that the good is remembered over the bad, many times we will forget the good as the bad had been over powering. These are the things you keep a records of, and you note them in red ink. If they were not important to you, then why would you record them! Life is good and bad, it is the past that each of us will hold on to, for what ever reason we desire, until our final hours.
Child hood, is where you will find most of the good things in your life. Think about the first toys you received and did you thank the person that gave them to you. No hurry, there is plenty time to thank a person, that is after you have played and used that toy. Then, when it breaks or it is no longer wanted, why would you thank anyone for it. It’s forgotten, like so many other things are. But let us not forget, children are so busy, they never have enough time for everything.
Someone, ( maybe you ), forgot to tell these young people about the most important things in life. One’s family and friends, the people as they are the ones that make all things happen, and they make all the things that you need to survive in this world. Respect, kind-ness, being considerate, honesty and the truth. All of these thing are given with love and good intentions!
Yes, the past holds so much history to think about. I would like to say some thing about my first toys that I received when I was very young. My favorite toy was a small cast iron wheel barrow, about three inches in length. It was painted red and black, I wish I still had it and I would play with it today. It wasn’t a toy form Christmas, my father brought it home one day and gave it to me. I was so excited and was going to move mountains of dirt with it.
Yes! I did thank him, many times and I even let him play with it. I think I spent hours and hours playing with my little wheel barrow.
My first toy was a bag of small blocks of wood, all were different sizes, I would stack them up on each other, A year or so later, when I was getting around pretty fast. I received a little wooden train with wheels and it had one car. It had a long string to pull it around with. Some years later, I received another train, this one you had to wind it up with a key, There were no tracks for it to run on. It had two small wooden men that ran
ahead of the train with torches to light, the way for the train. “Well why not?” the nights are dark!
The big thing with this train, was it had a battery, but not for a light, but for a whistle. It was one of the first batteries to come out, The name on it was “Evans rude battery” Today it would be worth a lot of money and would have been an antic for collectors. It was made of copper and used water and soda as I can remember.
My family never had much for Christmas, we made things for each other, We did hang stockings up, that were filled with peppermint candy cane, fruit and nuts. We had family dinners and some times we even had a turkey, with all the trimmings. At times, Uncles and Aunts would come to dinner, “those that didn’t have families left at home.” After dinner we all sat or laid around on the floor, listening to the adults talk.
No one ever told us that we were poor. I can remember one year when we had fried eggs and home made baked bread for our dinner, I was so hungry I grabbed a spoon full of egg that was really hot, put it in my mouth and passed out and fell to the floor. Like I said, you don’t always remember just the good things!
Theses writings are the kind of writings that your children will want to read about after they become older. It is history to be passed on to your next generation.
