A Lesson to Remember,

Harrison Love was a twelve year old boy, he had a younger sister called Heidi and a younger brother named Harvey. The mother of these children had died in child birth of the youngest. The father was a uneducated, hard working man who was a laborer for a construction company. He didn’t get an education because his father had passed on at a young age and he quit school to work to help support his mother. Sister and brothers. Harrison’s family live in a modest home in a good neighborhood, were always clean, family oriented well mannered and considerate of others.

The father did what he could as the only parent and provided what he could on a low income wage. The family lived modestly, they had no TV or the other amenities that most families had. They all attended church on Sunday and were well acquainted in the neighborhood. The father and his deceased wife, had planned to name all of their children with the first name starting with the letter ”H”. His name was Harold and hers was Helen.

Harrison was not a good student in school, earning an average grade was about all he could do. He liked sports as most young boys do, but he was not an outstanding participant in any sport activity. He had only a few special friends as he was lacking in an outgoing personality. One friend had invited him to go swimming at a Country Club pool and provided him with a rented swim suit. It seemed that all the life guard could do was to yell at Harrison, for any and everything. The life guard knew that Harrison’s family was not members of the Country Club and there would be no backlash for anything he had said.

After swimming all afternoon, the pool was about to close. Harrison went to the men’s room while his friend went to the locker room to shower and change clothes. When Harrison went to the locker room to change, he could not find his clothing. He ask the Pool people if they had any idea what had happened to them, but no one appeared to know anything. One person spoke up and said: Items left behind are usually put in the lost and found box so they can be claimed, but this had already been checked.

Harrison thought he could make it home with just the swim suit, but the life guard said: “No”, since the suit was rented from the pool, it had to be turned in and the towel had to be turned in also. Harrison ask them, how did they expect him to leave without any clothing and they all just laughed at him. After having their fun with Harrison, they told him he had to leave so they could close and lock up the area. They pushed Harrison out a side door and locked it. As he stood there half hidden, a number of people went by, paying little attention to him.

Sometime later a grounds keeper came close and to where Harrison was hiding and the grounds keeper was recognized as being a member of the church that Harrison attended. He called to him and he came to see what the boy wanted. This man gave Harrison his coat to wear and escorted him to the pick-up he drove and he drove Harrison home.

The man had ask Harrison, what had happened and Harrison told him the story and the man ask, what he was going to do about this. Harrison said he was taught to turn the other cheek and since he was not hurt or injured, he saw no reason to report it to the police. The grounds keeper replied: Still something should be done about this. The next day Harrison’s friend told him, he had ask the pool people where his friend was and he was told that his friend had already left.

After Harrison had told the story again, The friend said he was going to tell his father, who was a member of the Country Club and one of the Board of directors. A few day later, the life guard was called to appear in front of the board and it was found that he also was a son of a board member and his father was one of the richer people in this town. He owned or controlled a number of businesses in the town. One was a construction company, a number of business supply houses and he had a finger in many other businesses in the town. Yes, where you find money, there is no wrong. No action was taken and the matter on the life guard was dropped. Once again, the rich and the powerful
feed on the poor. But this story has not ended just yet!

As more people learned and heard the story on Harrison, they began to talk and as the number grew, little minds were thinking of ways to correct this and make some adjustments, so it could never happen to anyone else! When a number of minds of the small un-important people get together, they out shine the value of a dollar many times over. Now it is not my intention to have any-thing written down to where it can be used against one.

So let us just say, when a large number of people stop doing business with a number of businesses, it is felt in ones cash flow. When a business has loses that are much too large, they go out of business and people who have no power and little to no money, are not people that serve on Country Club Boards.

There is a new Life guard at The country Club and she is very pretty and she is a sister to Harrison’s friend. Let us move ahead to five years later. Harrison has graduated from High school in the top ten of his class. His Father had married an assistant manager of a company that has gone out of business. With her help, Harrison’s father has been able to borrow enough money to buy a hard luck construction company from a bank forclosure and has put a large number of its former employees back to work.

There is a young x-life guard, from the country club, working on a chicken farm just outside of town, cleaning up chicken shit and his bicycle has a flat tire. He doesn’t seem to have many friends. and his bigshot father has been convicted of fraud and is now serving time in a Federal Prison. It’s going to be years before he will be considered for parole .

I say, trust in the poor and what matters, will work its self out. Harrison Love will become a State Senator and do a lot of good for the people in his state!

The Chief of police was re-elected and his wife is once again running City
Hall along with the Mayor’s wife!

They say, history will always repeat it’s self, will you be the one next time?
