Not long ago, a mouse that lived in an old house with a cat and a family of four, was reading a book on how to survive in dangerous places. The house was big, old and there were places that had never been seen by any eyes. It was easy to get lost in this old house. When the mouse first came here, he was all alone, had no family and it appeared that no other mice had been living here for a long, long time!
In fact, the house was over one hundred and fifty years old and it had been vacant for close to thirty or forty years. The last person to live here, had passed away and it was years before the body was found. It was said that the ghost of that person was still haunting the house. The house was a mansion build by a rich and deceitful old town banker. It was said: that his wife and children had disappeared long before and it was thought that he had murdered them and they were buried some-where in a cellar or on the grounds around the house. But this is not about that family, so let us get back to our story about the mouse.
Since he was all alone and there were no people around, there was little food to be found to live on. He was considering on leaving this old house and find a new place to stay. Then one day there was a lot of things going on around the house. A lot of people were cleaning, repairing and doing a lot of new things to the house. This was freighting to the mouse, as he was sure to be found and who knows what they would do to him. But as time went by, those people were leaving a lot of food around and he was not one to pass up free food. He kept an eye on everything that went on and was approving or disapproving on the work they had done. He was acting like a invisible supervisor on the job. After the day’s work was over, he would make the rounds to see what had been done, than return to his nest, light his candle and read in his book.
The book was about hypnotism, walking in your sleep and stuff like that. He was really getting interested in this stuff and really didn’t want to stop reading, but he had to get some rest as he would be up all the following day, on his self appointed job. He was thinking, that if he ever ran into a cat that was to be a problem for him, he could hypnotize the cat and get away. But in another chapter, it told how a cat was very superstitious. If a cat was told to never wake up anyone that is walking in their sleep, or they would have bad luck from that day on. He thought to himself, that cats are so sneaky and dumb, that to play with its mind was the way to go.
It was several months before the remodeling on this house was done and now people were doing all the finishing touches like putting up drapes, hanging pictures and placing furniture in specific places. Everything that could be needed for a family was being stocked or stored away. House keepers, cooks and other personal were getting established and were ready to serve. Within a few weeks, a family arrived, a wife, her husband, and two children, one a teenager and the other much younger.
And would you believe. A big pure white female cat that could hardly move. It rested on the softest pillow that could be found. The mouse was not sure if that cat could walk or not, as it was waited on hand and foot. Oh! There was also a dog but he was kept outside most of the time. It was fun to watch him as he wanted to play all the time. He was a big dog, but I don’t think they had him as watch dog. There was also a bird with the name of “Coco”, that could drive anyone nuts with its chatter. It was red, green and blue and the colors were all mixed together. They kept it in a cage as the cat was always watching it and licking its lips! Of course the dog thought this bird would be fun to play with, so he was kept outside most of the time.
Then one day, a fairy, from Old mother nature, brought in an old Tom cat and he decided to make his home at this old house, The white hair on the house cat would stand straight up, when the Tom cat came around. And what the bird was saying, I have no idea, except I’m sure it wasn’t nice.
The mouse was thinking of how to get a message to the old Tom cat, so he could start working on the mind of the cat. So he was leaving messages everywhere, to find out if this cat could read, to be sure.
But how could this be done. The mouse thought about this for several day when a thought came to mind. Why not make a treasure map for the cat to follow and leave messages at each point for the old Tom cat, about the danger of wakening a sleep walking cat. Then the cat would have to be tested to be sure he understood. It was all working as planned and the cat was following instruction to find the next clue. Each time he read of the danger of waking a sleep walking cat.
Whenever the mouse was sighted, the cat would run and hide, like the mouse was a bomb, about to explode. Now the mouse knew that he had the cat right where he wanted him.
Life was good for the mouse and he thought of himself as the master of this house. But as you know, all good things come to an end, and there would be no difference in this story.
Early one night, a really bad storm came up. Thunder was the worst and lightning was flashing every few seconds. The wind had never blown so hard and the rain was harder than was ever seen before. There was something about this storm that was un-natural and everyone was afraid they were going to die. Several of the people in the house were crying and old white cat was hiding under something somewhere.
The bird was on its knees, praying to be saved. The children were being held close to their mother and covered with a quilt. The father was not at home, he was off somewhere on business. There was no electrical power and nothing would work without it. Strange sounds were coming from everywhere and they thought the house was falling apart. Now was the time to make a confession if you had one! The old house was really getting a working over and no one had ever been this scared before. They all thought this was going to be the end for them. The top floor had been blown away and the wind and rain was felt no matter where you were.
All of a sudden the storm stopped, as fast as it had started. The sun was shining and it was a mess everywhere they looked.
The little mouse thought, now what am I going to do, I can no longer live here! The bird had lost most of its feathers and it was so small it wouldn’t have made a good meal for the mouse. The white cat could not be found and the old Tom cat had disappeared. The dog was seen running in the yard with a stick in his mouth, looking for someone to play with him.
The mouse was standing on the curb when the wrecking crew arrived. The old house would be gone and what would be standing in its place.
The family had moved into a hotel and the husband was still away on business.
The mouse lived to be quite old and was a very good Black Mouse President, he served only one term and was replaced by someone called Mohammed.
The world stopped turning for a time and was moved to another location in the universe. Most of the people were left behind in space. But they can still hear the squawk of that bird and daylight never ends.
But the story does right here……………………
