Stories come and stories go and I wonder what this one will be about? There are some people that I haven’t picked on for quite a while. And I haven’t gotten political for a couple of days. No one ever says what they want to hear about, so the choice is always left up to me! I can’t talk religion, as I lose a lot of friends that way. If I ask the old girl for a suggestion, she tells me to leave her alone. I have left her alone for so long already, she has to be getting lonely. Still, people like her never get lonely, they are happy just to be left alone in their own little world. Witch sounds like a title for a story.
Let’s call this one, “Small worlds”.
It was the beginning of September, summer is about to pass us by and the fall will be here in no time at all. There were so many things we wanted to do, either we didn’t have the time or we were short of money. One of those two reasons always come into play with most things. For all those thing that we didn’t get done, they will have to wait for next year. The things I did do are so small, they are hardly worth mentioning.
I slept a lot and ate a lot. But kept my weight down, I’m not any lighter but never gained much either. Didn’t buy any new clothing as I really didn’t need anything. Maybe socks, but then I just took one good one from one pair and selected another good one from a second pair and bingo, I had two good socks. One may have been green and the other blue, but they worked! I always watch TV when I am laying down, but I never know how the ending is, as I always fall asleep.
I just sit around smelling up the place, while my retirement checks came rolling in, so Peggy always has a little money to spend. I don’t seem to ever have any money, but then I don’t buy anything. What I do need, can’t be bought for any amount. Health and more years, but some people say I have been here too long already. I do have a grand-dog that loves me, or is it because I feed him really good? Is it right to call them a grand-dog, if they belong to your grandchildren?
When the phone rings, it is usually someone asking for a donation. Last week a young guy called, the first thing he said was “Don’t hang up” I am new at this , he said he had only been a fund raiser for a few days, I said I would be happy to talk with you, I have been wanting to speak with a fund raiser for a long time.
I told him of all my problems and asked if he didn’t agree with me. He answered yes to most everything and we talked about how we could set up a fund raiser for old people that needed help in all aspects of life. About how hard we worked all our lives and could no longer afford to live in our homes. Every program that was initiated today was for other groups of people, like the Indian.
I must have held him on the line for a half an hour. Then he said, What about the firemen, I told him to tell them to piss on the fires.
Like I said, there is nothing I need, but a lot that I want. But my world is getting so small I don’t have any place to put what I do have. I would like to go on a picnic, but there is no place you can go, Now you have take out a loan to pay the entrance fee to enter one of them areas, and then they are so full, you have to set in your car and eat out of your car trunk. Not only that, but because of all the traffic, it took twice as long to get there! Then we had to stop for gas and we had to wait two hours to get close to the gas pumps to get the gas. By this time it was getting dark and guess what? My lights did not work because I couldn’t afford to have them fixed. Now back in the old days, you could hold a flashlight out the window and chug along home.
Remember how it was, way back when you needed a police officer, and one couldn’t be found? Well here we are five miles from home and we get stopped by at least ten policemen and they all want to give you a ticket. Then the judge orders you to get insurance and says, get AAA, which I couldn’t afford to begin with. Early the next morning there is a knock on your door, it is an officer, wanting to know if you had gotten insurance, and the sun isn’t even up yet. So you try to tell him that it is too early as places are not open yet. That is when he gets on his radio and orders a tow truck. You stand there, saying good-by to your car as it is towed to the city storage lot.
The Bank holds the title to the car and there was around $25.00 still un-paid on it. It is a 1936 model Junker and I bought it for $75.00. Every once in a while. I get a notice from the city clerk, saying that I need to pay a fine and take my car out of the city storage lot. Several time they said they were going to auction it off. It has gone through several auctions and no one will make a bid on it. That was fifteen years ago. The Bank and the City have spoken some harsh words to each other. City bank accounts have been frozen. As for Me, I am enjoying every little moment of it. Besides myself, Bank and City lawyers are laughing! Church congregations have been separating and who knows what else?
The only thing that could please me more is: If some of you people would send a message telling me how much you enjoyed my writings. It really is hard to pat one’s self on the back………………….
