So you want to learn to drive a car!

Okay, let us see if you have what it takes, now pay attention! What is a car, a car is one means of transportation to get a person or persons from one place to another as soon as possible, it usually looks like a box or an egg, has no specific shape, has four wheels and comes in many colors.

First you have to learn how to clean a car, remember a clean car looks better, runs better, cheaper, smoother and will carry from two too sixteen teenagers, But for you, the number will be one.

The basic things on a car is, the engine. A car always has a engine, never a motor. It has to go forward and backwards, and be able to stop and go depending on what you want it to do, It has to have a steering wheel to turn corners and to navigate from one place to another. It can be large or small but all are expensive, It takes gas or diesel to make the engine run and you have to have a supply of money to buy the fuel ( gas or diesel) Cars will go down hill faster than up hill!

All cars have what is called, an emergency brake. This is used when you park the car and to prevent a run-a-way. Each wheel has a brake cylinder that is controlled by a foot peddle on the driver’s side, on the floor by your feet. Push on it with your right foot when stopping.
To the right is a gas peddle or it is called the accelerator which makes the engine run faster and the car will move faster. Most new cars come with an automatic transmission, but you can buy a car with a clutch. Most older cars all have clutches, you had to push the clutch in before putting the car in a gear, than release the clutch slowly to start the car to move. Once it is moving, the clutch can be let all the way out. Never forget that the clutch needs to be pushed in when you are going to stop and do not forget to push the foot brake, when you are gong to stop! A clutch is used to control the transmission.
The Transmission is what make the wheels turn so the car will go forward or backwards. Transmissions are for changing gears to go forward or backwards. Newer cars can have several forward gears, Old cars usually only have three forward gears.

Automatic transmissions do not use a clutch in their operation and there will be nothing on the floor board by the brake pedal. The automatic transmission will have you select a range to use, depending on the load the car is moving, It will also have a reverse to select when you go backwards. Everything is automatic when the car has this transmission.

On the steering wheel, in the center there is a button called the horn. This is to warn people that you are new at driving and they need to watch out for you. The horn make a loud sound so everyone can hear it.
Cars run on roads and roads come in all sizes and go in any number of directions, when you are going north your car will need to be in the right hand lane. If you are going south, again your car need to be in the right hand lane. At times you will see as many as four, five or six lanes going in the same direction. It is best to keep your car in a right hand lane Watch the signs, they will tell you what lane you need to be in. ( Get a booklet from your states driver’s bureau ) Remember, you are a new driver, not a good driver, you are dangerous to others, you are un-safe, you are a menace behind a wheel, you should have flashing light and a fog horn on your car.

Young people should have to have Red Flags attached to each corner of their car and follow a pilot car that has flashing lights when they are learning and this should be done in a Rock Quarry, or a Farmer’s field or maybe a race track.

Okay, now you know all this stuff and it is time to get behind the wheel and drive. First off, where is your learner’s permit and do you have insurance coverage? Can you see out all mirrors? Is you seat in the best position? Are all doors closed? Is there any people in the car besides the instructor, if so, have them get out of the car. Now, let us say prayer, Our Father who art in Heaven !

Before you start the engine, put your left foot on the clutch pedal and put your right foot on the break peddle, push it in, “down to the floor”. Remove your right foot on the brake pedal and place in on the accelerator and push lightly down ward. Now with the left foot, let the clutch out slowly. When the car is moving slowly and smoothly. Let the clutch out all the way. R o a r! Screech! hip hop! R o a r! Screech! hip hop! R o a r! Screech! hip hop! “STOP”! Push both the clutch and foot brake in at the same time!

Now that wasn’t too bad, You made it to the corner in just three hops. Are you, by any chance, part rabbit?

Now if we have everything back in place, let’s try it again, On my mark, get ready! get set! Go! “ STOP”! That was great, you made it around the corner and we are parked in someone’s front yard. Okay, lets call the tow truck and we will tray again tomorrow!

Many days have gone by and this is our ”fifth week”. If you don’t make it this week, I will have to charge you again and find you a new instructor.

Wanted, A Driving Instructor with a sound mind, no fear and one that can cope with some danger! $100.00 per hour on first day. Stunt driver preferred!
