It's better to die young

It’s better to die young than to ?

A female person awakes in the morning and prepares herself for a doctor’s appointment and it has been set for early morning. She decides to forgo breakfast so that means the old man gets no breakfast either. It’s rush- rush-rush so you meet a friend who will drive you to the appointment.

She drops you off at the clinic and you say good by to each other. You are out of breath when you get to doctor’s office and standing in front of the receptionist. She says: good morning, how may I help you. You take another deep breath and give your name, and say “I have an appointment to see doctor what’s his name!”

As all receptionist’s do, she places her fingers on the key board and searches for the information on your appointment but there is nothing there. She looks through a stack of papers, then she reaches under the counter and brings up a book and goes through it from the front to the back. She found nothing there either, so she picks up her phone and starts calling numbers.

After another fifteen to twenty minutes she says, we don’t seem to have an appointment for you today, and you say: I am sure you do, so you look in your purse and find the appointment card and look at it. It says the appoint is for tomorrow. But you won’t admit that you made a mistake ! This is not the first time you have done this, in fact You have lost count of the number of times this has happened.

You are leaving the building and you make a wrong turn at the end of the hall and end up at some strange place and are lost. You have to ask a number of people on how you can get out of the building, so finally some one shows you the way out. But this is not the same place that you came in. You can’t see how you can go around the building, there is no sidewalk, so you go back inside and start searching again. Again you find someone to guide the way and now you are on the outside. You take another deep breath, scratch your itch and start looking for you car.

After covering the entire parking lot, you find a car that you think is yours. With keys in hand you try to put the key in the door lock, but it won’t go in. You bump the car parked next to it and an alarm goes off. This alerts the security guards and they come to investigate. You try to explain that your key won’t work. They ask for some identification and proof that the car belongs to you. You have none, The police are notified and a car is dispatched to the scene.

Luck is with you, One of the officers knows you and has had dealings with you before. He knows you are not a criminal that this is most likely all a little mistake. Before long they learn that the car you are trying to get into belongs to someone else and they are going to have you charged with theft. It was missing from their drive way and they reported it to the police. It takes the next several hours at the police station getting things straightened out. Then you had to take a taxi home and there parked in your garage, is your car.

The house key is on your key ring and where is that key ring? the police still have it! They did not give it back to you and you never ask for it! But the old man is home or he should be home, but why doesn’t he answer the door bell. He is a sound sleeper so if he is sleeping the door bell should have wakened him. You will just have to set on the door step and wait.

Unknown to her, he went out to the back yard to do something and the back door locked it’s self when it closed and the old boy was locked out also. He decided it was best to wait for you to come home and unlock the door for him. Now we have two old bottle caps. One setting on the front steps and one on the back porch waiting for each other to let them in.

You can hear the house phone ringing and ringing, if the old boy was sleeping that always wakes him up. Mean while the old boy is setting out back and is thinking, why should I set here? I’ll go to the garage and set in the car and listen to the radio.

Rounding the corner of the house, going to the garage, he sees her setting there on the steps! They look at each other like they were strangers. Who. What, when, where, were the questions in their minds, but neither spoke a word, He returned to the back of the house and she heard the sound of glass breaking. Then the front door was opened and she got up and entered the house. He sat down and started to read the news paper again, she went upstairs and stayed there for the longest time. When she came down stairs, she went into her kitchen and started to cook dinner. Neither spoke a word.

The following morning he waited in bed while she used the bath room first. Then she went down stairs and was making extra noise in the kitchen. By the time he came down, the coffee was ready and he said: Good morning, she smiled at him and another day was about to began.

That afternoon, a patrol car pulled into the driveway and a police women came up the walk and rang the door bell. He answered the door and the lady handed him a key ring. He thanked her and she went back to her patrol car and drove away. To say the least, his curiosity was high, but he just handed her the key ring and said nothing. It was three a.m. when she woke him up and said to him, who are you and what do you want? The old boy blinked his eyes a couple of times when she started to scream. He tried to quite her but she scratched and kicked him and fought like a wild cat. The only thing that helped was when he left the room and went downstairs. He had no idea what was going on, so he called a member of the family and ask them to come to his home. When her sister and her husband arrived, they talked briefly and the sister went upstairs where she found the old girl setting in bed crying.

The sister sat down along her side and put her arm around her sister. And just sat there for what seemed to be hours. Then they talked about what was wrong and the story unfolded as more tears came.

The old girl thought she had lost her mind or was losing it. She kept saying that she did not want to be put away in some old folks home and that was sure to happen if people knew about her memory. She was to see her doctor the day before, but that was forgotten, so yet another appointment would have to be scheduled. This time some one else would have to know about the appointment and see that it was kept. There were times when she sat down and hours later she would respond, having lost all track of the time.

Surely; she will have to see a Psychiatrist and he would put her in a hospital she would be there for the rest of her life. Weeks later she was in the doctors office and the nurse was drawing blood for lab work. She fainted and was being revived with smelling salt and wet cloths. Now she was sure she was dieing and was half way there. The doctor was giving her some shots and telling her that she was just weak and needed to be given Vitamins to build up her strength and energy. She needed a lot of rest and to relax for a few weeks. She should go to a mountain resort, all alone and have no visitors or anything to remind her of home. That, with a much needed rest, she would be just fine.

A mountain resort was selected and arraignments were made for transportation to the resort. A week later she was enjoying the company of another man at dinner. She felt happy and carefree as if she was young again. There had been no news from the outside, not even a whisper. She felt like life was starting anew. This gentleman was holding her hand and he noticed a finger where a ring had once been worn. He ask her about this and her new found world ended. She had came back to face reality, once again.

It was like a bomb had exploded when she stepped out of the car, there stood the same old house that she had been dreading to return to. It will be the same old things all over again. So once she was inside and in her room, unpacking, she picked up this heavy book end and throw it at the big mirror on her dresser. The glass shattered maker a very loud noise that brought her husband running. The door flung open and there he was, the reason for all her troubles. She said to herself. I can’t take any more of this and she picked up the book end and with all the strength, she had, hit him in the face. There was blood, eye balls, and pieces of brain matter all over the place. There was a big smile on her face and she felt happy for the first time in years.

Six months later, they removed the straight jacket and took the gag out of her mouth. Once again she felt weak and could not even stand by herself. She had to be restrained in her chair to stop her from falling out. She spoke in anger and her tongue was sharper than ever. As soon as she was well enough, she would be tried for murder and sure to be found guilty.

How all of this started was soon forgotten, the glass in the back door had never been replaced. The phone in the house kept ringing and ringing and we wonder who was calling? The big clock in the hall had run down and the pendulum stopped swinging.

Since there were no children in the family, the sister inherited the house, business and all the money. Lock, stock and barrel. They partied every night and drank more that their share of booze. He died soon after that and she is lost somewhere out there. No car, no keys, no nothing, not even remembering her own name. She had gone to see a Psychiatrist and never again was she seen. Maybe she is still in his office!

I am beginning to think this condition runs in the family, I can’t find my way out of this place, Please, Some body help me!
