With rings on her fingers.

With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes she would danced the night away. Yes, she was only one of a few girls to attend this dance. It was a special dance to take up a collection for a very needy cause. Several bands offered their music for free and it was agreed on, that each would play on a agreed upon schedule. Food would be provided by a number of groups around the city and prizes from a large number of businesses would be given away.

Norma was young, too young to be out with boys without being escorted by an adult. There were many young girls there, that were too young for these service men. A ratio of seven to one, seven boys for each girl. Most the boys were from the Navy Base nearby and from ships docked in the harbor. The honored guest, a young man who had been severely injured, while saving several children in a fire. An act of heroism that most would not have attempted.

The young ladies in this town far out numbered the young men, and why so few came to this fund raiser was un-known. Everything in the past was a huge success. As the dance continued, the first band to play, had finished their part and the second band had started. It was still early as dances go, food was being consumed and everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves.

Around nine or nine thirty, two buses, plus a number of cars showed up at the dance hall. The girls of the town had been attending a special meeting for young ladies, in a Career Planning Seminar. Invitations were sent out to the young ladies only, and not many people knew about it, But with in a very few minutes the joint was alive and jumping, you would have thought they were tearing the place down.

The crowd seemed to grow and grow as husbands and wives and people from surrounding towns arrived. The hall was so crowded, all one could do is stand and let the crowd move you around. The dance continued much longer than it was scheduled to end.

The dance was such a large success and all the expenses that were needed for the young man was met. When he had fully recovered, he returned to the town and made it his home. He married and was a success in business , had a number of children and was always involved in things that were good for the community. He never forgot what the town did for him.

There is no Statue of this man in the community, but there should be one. People need to be reminded that someone always needs assistance and it is people, like this fellow that supply that need. There are many of these people around, you just have to look to see them. Thank you my Friend. What can I do to help you ?
