" Homer the Hawk "

As a young bird, Homer didn’t look like much. He was thought to be a lazy hawk that really didn’t want to do anything, just set in the nest and watch others. Little did anyone know that Homer would become known World wide.

He acted as if he was really important and held himself above all the other hawks and never appeared overly friendly with any other bird. He seemed to look down his beak at most birds that fly. When he did leave his nest, he would fly higher than the other hawks and stay up, three or four times longer than the others. The people on the ground held his attention longer than anything else. He seemed to understand what people were going to do and watched them closely.

As the year passed, Homer moved his nest up to the top of an old church steeple that was more at the center of town. He had to remember to leave the tower on Sunday mornings, when they rang the bell, it was just too loud for him when it was wrung. There were times that it would surprise or catch him off guard and he would have to shake his head to clear it. If there was one thing that he did not like, it would have to be that church bell. As the years went by, a new church was built and they moved the old bell to the new church,

One day around noon, the old church bell begun to ring and it continued for a long time. It was a signal for the people to come to the church. When enough people were there, The preacher stood at the podium and told them that a child was missing and the family had looked every where, but could not find the youngster. The people were asked to search certain areas around the town and report back to the church when the search was completed. Then another area would be assigned until each area was covered. All after noon and into the evening they searched.

Then radio and TV stations were running announcements and people all around the area were assisting in the search. Darkness had set in and most searches had been sent home for that day. Early that following morning another search began. As the day went by. No sign of the child had been reported.

This is when Homer the Hawk, heard about the missing child. Homer took to the sky, he could cover more ground and faster than anyone else. With his keen eye sight, he could see in places when others searched would miss. Homer would stop and perch on a high spot, where he could see in all direction, then fly on and search some more.

It was almost dark, when the child was spotted, and the Hawk was astonished at how far this small chilled had traveled. It was getting cold and unless the child was recovered soon, it would no doubt freeze to death.

But how could Homer make people understand that he had located the young one? There was a more urgent matter at hand. to be taken care of. The Hawk took to the sky again and was looking for someone to contact and try to pass along a message, that the child was found. But had no luck in finding any. From high above, Homer spotted an old Wolf that was going into it’s den and landed close by. Homer started squawking at the wolf, but the Wolf would just chase Homer away. Again and again, Homer would try, but the old wolf just didn’t understand. Then Homer flew back to where the child was and was looking for something with the child’s scent on it, that he could get the wolf to smell, but he found nothing.

Homer decided to return to town and find something at the child’s home, where the child lived and looked for an article of clothing or something that had the scent on it. He found something hanging on a line drying, but would it still have a scent on it? With the item in his beak, he flew back to where the Wolf was. He would drop this piece of clothing at the Wolf’s nose so he could get the scent from it. But the old Wolf just didn’t understand. Over and over this was done and each time it was dropped a little farther away. Homer would gather up the piece of cloth, hold it in his mouth and back away.

Then the old Wolf realized the Hawk was trying to communicate something to him and the wolf started to follow the Hawk. Finally, Homer dropped the cloth at the child’s feet and the Wolf came close and was sniffing at the little one. The old Wolf knew what the Hawk was trying to tell him. The wolf laid down close to the child to keep it warm and the Hawk flew back to the town once more.

It was almost daylight and Homer had to communicate, some how with someone, and get them to follow. Some people were just not able to understand things like relating with animals or understanding them but animals could understand people. Homer decided to use the same technique on the family Dog as he did with the Wolf. He found another article of clothing for the Dog to smell, and get the scent and the Dog recognized what the Hawk was doing right away. He was using that scent the day before to locate the child, but the scent was lost.

The Hawk flew and the Dog followed and they arrived at the place where the child was sleeping. The Wolf backed away and the dog moved in close and smelled of the child. That morning, Homer and the Dog would guide and force the child to go in a certain directions, back to where people were searching. Once a searcher was heard, the dog ran to them and barked and they followed the dog back to where the child was. Back in the town, The Church Bell rang and rang and the news was passed on that the child had been found by the families dog.

But the dog and Homer knew better, they became really good friends and it was the Dog that became responsible for Homer the Hawk’s fame. Homer and the Dog would team many times to assist in searches. Then came the day when a young lady had learned the truth about Homer and was able to communicate with him.

As time would pass, He would fly and she would follow. And it wasn’t long before Homer was well known through out the country for his ability to finding lost people and the Old Dog was getting too old and a young one had to be trained. The old Dog and Homer would spend a lot of time together, in the following years. And Homer would even fly and find the Old Wolf and spent time with him. Some animals are very special and most animals recognize the young of all others and will take them under their wing, so to speak.

Love is found every where and some people do not even know what it is. I must be a love nut as it has been following me for at least Eighty years. I think I was lost those years that weren’t mentioned. But I was found and there were people that would take me out in the country and drop me off. But they didn’t know who they were dealing with, I would often beat them back to home.

People have even bought ‘me’ tickets on buses, trains and air planes, but I always find my way back.

When it comes to traveling in space, I am not going to take any chances, so get use to the idea. ……
Time travel, what is that?
