"It was a Hot One "

Walking down a sidewalk on a hot summer day and a cooling down was neeed. It had to be over a hundred degrees in the shade. I could see Joe’s bar, where the sign said, cold drinks and air conditioning. I don’t usually go into bars, but it was just too hot on this day. I managed to get the door opened with my left arm and hand, as my right arm was in a sling.

Once inside, I could see only a few people setting at the bar, so I chose a stool and sat down. The bar tender came over and asked what I would like, I told him make it a cold, one, anything that was on tap. He returned with a tall glass and set down in front of me. That first sip was so good that I took a large swallow. Ahhh, that sure hit the spot. I ordered a second glass and just sat there enjoying it.

Then this guy sat down next to me a started talking, he bought me my third cold drink and I have to say I was a getting a little oozy. With so much to drink, I needed to go to the girl’s room so I excused myself and turned to slide off of the bar stool, when I slipped and fell to the floor. It was good that I was wearing shorts or I would have really been embarrassed.

I had that tall glass of beer in my hand when I fell and I never spilled a drop of it. But I had hurt my left arm or elbow. The bar tender and the waitress helped me to my feet and then a second bartender drove me to the hospital, where they took an x-ray and found no breaks, but they did put my arm in a sling.

We left the hospital and returned to Joe’s place and they gave me another cold beer. This time the girl that was waiting on the tables had to hold my drink as I sipped away on it. Before I finished it, I knew that I had enough and was ready to leave and go home. They opened the door for me and wished me luck as we said good-by.

When I got to the car, I realized that I was unable to open the door, so the first person that came by, I ask them if they would help me and I slid in behind the steering wheel.” My keys,” My keys were in my pocket and I had forgotten to get them out before I sat down.

This person that was helping me, put his hand into my pockets, but found no keys. That was when we noticed that the keys were still in the ignition switch,

But I had forgotten something else. With both arms in slings, I wasn’t able to drive. This young man offered to drive me home and when we arrived he parked the car in front of the house and we went inside, then I called a taxi to take him where ever he wanted to go. I am almost certain that this young man was thinking that he had gotten lucky.

Early the next morning, the police were pounding on our door, they wanted to know about the car that was parked in front of our house, I told then that it was my car, and my husband said, No it wasn’t, he had left our car at a garage for repairs, and they hadn’t called to say it was ready to be picked up yet. Well, it seemed that I had stolen some ones car. At the station, it took some time to get the matter cleared up and no charges were filed, and I apologized to every one.

This is the reason I do everything, one thing at a time. If I drink, I drink. If I drive, I drive. If I walk, I walk, but I have never gone back into a bar again. And now that I have a record. I stay at home as much as I can.

And they say: never drink and drive, "well I didn’t do that either!"
