We have many parks in our City and they are all nice. Our largest park has a path running the full length of it along with a creek. Yes. You can really enjoy our parks.
But just how safe are these parks? We all know that if you go walking alone at night, in parks, you are asking for trouble. So no one wants trouble when out walking. Most of us will do our walking when it is in the day light. As a man and walking alone, you feel safer than if you are a girl or woman.
I would like to tell you a story, about a guy, that happened some years ago. He had decided to take a walk in our largest park before going home for lunch. He was a retired male person, with limitations. He didn’t walk every day, just when he had the time and nothing better to do.
He chose to walk close to the creek and there were many trees and shrub. The grass was oh so green and freshly cut. It was sunny and warm with a gentle breeze. He said he decided to set on the ground and rest for a bit. A group of young ladies, around high school age, came walking by and stopped to say a few words, The first thing he knew, The whole group had a hold of him and drug him into some bushes, some held him while others removed his clothing, while they were laughing making some remarks.
With all of his clothing, including socks and shoes, they all walked away making some remarks, like, It has been nice seeing you or Have fun and see you around. Not knowing what to do, he decided to stay under cover of the bushes and call to someone when they walked by. The first dozen people that came by, heard him, but they ignored him and kept walking.
He was sure some of then could tell that I was naked and they were going to avoid him, thinking he was a sex maniac. There were rest rooms close by and he made his way to one, but the doors were locked ! He found another place to hide and some one that works in the park was close enough to hear his call and came. He gave him an old work coat to wear, and offered to drive him home! He wasn’t hurt or injured in any way, but his pride was damaged to a degree.
He reported this incident to the police and they all enjoyed the story and smiled, they didn’t appear to be much concerned with what he told them.
He didn’t think they were going to do anything and this made him mad. He went to the news paper and placed an add, saying there was a reward offered for information about this attack. Then one day a week or so later, he received a letter in the mail, It was an apology for what had happened and was signed by six girls all named Janet.
The following week he received a couple more letters. One was asking for a date and said they would meet him at the same location. The other was a bit more vulgar and made him blush. Then he thought, why not meet the person that was asking for a date and set a trap for them. But the police said: he couldn’t do that, it was illegal!
He decided to let the whole thing be forgotten. He hasn’t been out walking for some time now. When he does go, it will be at high noon, with a huge attack dog by his side, a body guard, a knife and a couple of big guns. Oh, He said, he has never had or owned a cell phone or an I-pad or an instrument that calls 911, But if he does go, he will have them with him.
I wonder what happened to his clothing and shoes, were they given to a street person? The shoes were almost new!
