" In Old England"

Back in the early years of Old England, near a place called Canton, two old Norman Knights were dressing in their suits of armor and getting ready for a jousting contest. The horses were ready and in place, so they could hoist the riders up and onto the horses, the lances were handed to them as soon as they were mounted.

At the drop of a hanky, that was being held by a lady, they would charge each other in an attempt to knock the opposing rider off of his horse. If no one was unseated, they returned to the starting point and repeated what they had done before.

This time, one of the jousters slid slightly to the side of his saddle and held his lance low,

just before getting to the contact point. The lance entered the horses mouth and went all the way through the horse and came out the other end. Of Course the horse fell dead and the contest was over.

At a banquet that night, horse meat was served along with many other choices of foods. The ale was served warm, as usual. Those eating, were making a lot of unpleasant slurping sounds while they ate. Only a few ladies were present but they all excused themselves and left the banquet.

Many of the men had a dog with them and they would feed them, when the paws of a dogs were resting on the table top. No one appeared to have any manners and gas was being passed with some distressing notice.

Glasses of Ale, were kept overflowing and it wasn’t long before the men were falling asleep, face down in their plates. Once they were all asleep, the men were relieved of their coine purses,

The taxes were so high and out of sight at that time, and a new way of getting money to run the castle, had to be found. This was thought to be the answer for new funds. Once the pockets of the men were empty, The drunks were taken out of the Castle and loaded on a cart and taken to a road house, where they would wake up with no coins in their pockets. When they woke with empty pockets, they accused each other of robbery, swords were drawn and blood was spilled.

Any one that worked at the castle and was thought, to have a running mouth ( not trusted )was put in chains and left in the dungeon,

It wasn’t long before Old King Fred ( he was the king at that time) had spent all the money and the coffers were empty. People started to leave the country. Then more people left and soon only a few remained in the castle.

The people that left went to places like Plymouth Rock, Russia, Japan, China and Canada, some even went to a place called Florida!

Those that remained at the castle were starving. All they had left to eat, was some old horse meat, so they ate that and they all died. The land was left empty and was turning into dust.

Today, this place is known as Ireland, It is said to be green and it rains a lot. The major industry is fighting and the national sport is War.

Be you English or Irish, “tis better” to be an old horse!

P.S, Will someone please go and get those men out of the dungeon ?
