"Brown Boots"

My half sister's husband was born in a land in the North Atlantic around 1712. He along with most of the men, made a living from the sea or from ships and lands across the sea. The crews would share in the bounties taken from ships and lands.

You might want to call them pirates or thieves as there was no laws back then, so you can’t call them outlaws! Most of these men were single, and only a few of the Ships Captains were married. Some years before, a Viking Boat had went aground on a reef off the coast of Nova Scotia and all hands, with the exception of the Captain and one crew member, were lost. That crew member was my half sister's husband.

He migrated south to a small port called Boston Harbor. There he worked as a cart builder that built two wheeled carts that were pulled by man or animal. This man was a drinking fool and after having a few drinks, he became the devil himself. It wasn’t long before all men and women feared him, except for one old girl, my half sister! She could out drink, out curse or out run or fight any man, two up to six to one. And for this reason only, they were married. In one of their arguments, she twisted his left hand until it was detached and fell to the floor. A hook replaced the hand and he was meaner that ever.

Than one day he had signed on to a ship and went out to sea. While he was gone, his wife gave birth to triplets, three boys. The years passed quickly and the day came when the husband returned. He was the first mate, on the ship, a position acquired because the other first mates had found death. With in a month, the ship sailed once again, and his wife again gave birth, this time it was twin boys. The husband had provided well for his family, they were rich beyond other families in Boston Harbor, but there were many that were even richer.

Crime and murder, was growing fast in this settlement and the name mentioned most, concerning these murders and crimes, was the names of the boys in this family of a captain, with a hook. This ship never returned, but a bigger and newer one did. The captain was a man with a hook. It was said that this ship was the most feared of any ship that sailed upon the waters.

My half sister, his wife, was meaner than an attack dog, she had taken up chewing of tobacco and could spit farther than any other man. She ruled with a whip in hand, and the servants all had lash marks on their backs and butts. The Boys knew enough, not to get close to her when she was in one of her moods. She had entered a spitting contest, but she lost and the winner was a distinguished looking gentleman of quality.

Yes, she was once again expecting a child and this time a female was born. A beautiful little girl, A princes or a queen, one that commanded and got what ever she wanted. My half sister, The captain’s wife, became a different person, she was all sweet, gentle, thoughtful and caring. Her only reason in life was now to serve her beautiful daughter.

Of the five Son’s, One was serving a life sentence in prison, two had been killed and the other two had just disappeared. But, the older the daughter got, the more she became like her father, and he was not the Captain of a ship, but the Governor of a place called Liqueur Stick. Who was the richest man in the country, who had been married twice already, where his wives had disappeared too, was unknown!

Then one day, a ship appeared on the horizon, it anchored in the harbor men in a long boat were Rowing to shore,. One man with a hook on his left arm, a black patch over one eye, a sword in his sash and a wooden leg. He hailed a coach and gave the driver an address. Arriving at this address he knocked on the door and was informed that the lady that once lived here, was now living at the mansion on the hill.

A second coach took him to the mansion on the hill. He entered the big house and found his wife in the arms of another man. The captain drew his sword and he demanded satisfaction. The fight had hardly started when the captain fell forward on his face, he was dead, a knife was stuck in his back. There was no way to tell who the knife belonged to.

Now for those of you, that think a mean women can be changed, into a loving and gentle woman, you better not turn your back to her, and keep one eye open when you go to sleep!

Yes Dear, I can hear you, I am coming as fast as I can!
