"You and your Money"

A friend came to town to visit for a week end. He ran short of funds, But he did have a payroll check with him, for the last month. Of course, on a week end, all banks were closed, but on Sundays there are places where one can cash a payroll check for a fee. But to cash one from out of state, you need a local person to Verify who you are. And being a friend, I did this.

The place that cashed his check, paid out with one hundred dollar bills, fourteen, all were new $100.00 dollar bills and change. As you know, new bills look a little different than the older bills.

Well, my friend got on his flight home and he had a two hour lay over in one of our larger cities. He decided to have dinner at the airport café and was going to pay his bill with one of his bills. The cashier looked at the bill and questioned it and called the manager.

The bill was counterfeit. In the manager’s office with the police present, all his bills were checked and all found to be counterfeit. Of course he was detained and held in a cell until his story could be checked out. They could not find the place where he had cashed the check. It was an empty place up for rent and no one had used it for several months.

My friend had been detained for over a week and missed his flight from there on to where he was going. It was one of them special last minute deals to fill up the seats on a flight. Try to explain something like this to an airline ticket agent and you will be ready to bang your head on a concrete wall. When my friend was set free, he had no ticket or money to continue his journey. He called me collect and I sent money so he could get on home.

I just thought you should know, (they are out there) and watching you. One person told me that they took a taxi to a rail road station, the driver got their luggage out of the trunk of the cab and opened the cab door for them, the person took their billfold out, opened it, and paid the driver and put the change back in his pocket. Standing in a line at the ticket counter, he had the bill fold in his hand and the hand with bill fold in it, was in his pocket. Arriving at the ticket counter and opening the bill fold, it was found to be empty of everything.

I would recommend that when you travel, go naked, and carry nothing, It would be okay if you smile. And Keep your hands where they can be seen!

If you feel something, It’s not my hand! That sure is a dinky little ‘ blip’ you have there!
