Getting started on the right foot !

Getting started on the right foot:

Married on a week-end and no honey moon!. Back to work on Monday and a shift change this week-end.. When it came time to leave for work at 3:30 p.m. my loving bride was off someplace. Had to pack my own lunch pail and find clean work cloths and off to work I go.

After working the shift, getting a shower and dressed , I walk home with my Father in-law. As he continued on to his own home I tried to enter the house and found the door was locked. After making enough noise and wakening my bride, she refused to open the door and let me in! She said if I was going to go out and run around at night, I could just stay out all night! I tried to tell her that I had been working but she wouldn't believe me. She said this was a good time for me to learn that she wasn't going to put up with this old stuff, I had responsibilities as a husband and she was going to teach me right from the start.

After what seemed to be hours, I walked to my father in-laws home and told him what was going on. He laughed for a while, we didn’t have a telephone so he couldn’t call and talk to her. He put his clothing on and walked back to my house with me. He knocked on the door, and she thinking it was me ,said: go away and let her sleep. Well daddy finally convinced her that I was telling her the truth. And she unlocked the door and let me in, I thanked my father in-law and he returned to his home.

From that day on I have had it made. She has never doubted my word and I remind her ever so often of that dark cold night in March of 1948.
