One can always learn something.

Subject: One can always learn something. .

Never jump ship when you are in the middle of the ocean, as it is a long way to shore. I was in the water so long, I grew some fins and gills, but I wasn’t aware of it. And one more thing, never try to get ashore when the tide is going out. Any dumb sailor would know that.

Everything in the ocean wanted to eat me, but I stood my ground or should I say: “water” ? The water could be cold or hot, clear or cloudy depending on where you were. But I never had any idea of where I was all that time. I would look them hungry big guys, straight in the eye and when they charged, I would dart aside and they would snap their mouth closed and miss me. I wasn’t going to be a free meal for any ugly fish.

I tried to navigate by using the stars, But I never knew where I was and couldn’t remember just where the North star was suppose to be, I knew that the sun came up in the east and set in the west, just try to remember that when you are treading water and something is looking for its dinner. I must have floated or swam in that ocean for months or maybe even years. There were many of ships that went by, but I couldn’t keep up with them. I would get tired and had to rest, by the time I was ready to go again, the ship was out of sight.

I tried to locate Old King Neptune to ask directions, guess he wasn’t in this ocean. I also tried to remember what the weather people said about the currents and jet streams. Then it came to me, jet streams are up in the sky. You would have to know where you are, to tell where the currents were going.

Once I found a fishing net with many kinds of fish caught up in it, I help to free some of them and one, a transparent satin and gold colored fish, about the same size as me, swam with me for a long time, then one day, she just wasn’t there any longer! I am not sure if it was male or female, but it was so pretty, it had to be a female. Another time, something with a lot of arms, tried to drag me into a cave, but some-thing else scared the hell out of it and it let go of me, boy did I ever get out of there fast. I ran into clouds and clouds of really small fish that looked like a black spot in the water. They would go this way and that way so fast your eye couldn’t keep up with them as they changed direction as if they were only one.

I saw thousands of sunken ships and never thought about treasure. The treasure sure wouldn’t help me to locate a beach. I found a number of bottles with notes in them, floating around. Some had been placed in the water three hundred years ago.

Once I saw a large metal cylinder which I thought was a submarine and I knocked on it it, thought I heard a knock come from within. But it never slowed and kept on moving. It had a bright orange circle on its side, that looked like a sun. I couldn’t read what the writing said. Whoever wrote it, must have been in a hurry. One other time I saw something like it, it said Neptune on it. I finally learned that if I attached myself to one of them big slow fish, I could rest longer. I saw another fish doing that!

There were a lot of different sounds in the ocean, like scraping sounds and screeches, even sounds like a drum. Once I heard a Roar and thought my-self, are there lions in the ocean? When big ships passed overhead, it was really noisy and all the fish tried to hide. Once in a while, I could see some
thing large as a ship go by and it didn’t make a sound. I would go up to the surface to look. It looked like a ship and like everyone on board had their laundry hung out to dry.

As the years passed on, I got a lot slower and never had much energy. I was always hungry because I never got enough to eat. One day I saw a hook with a small fish on it, I was going to get it, when something bigger took it right out of my mouth and up to the surface it went. I followed and there was a lady in a small boat fishing. I spoke to her, she looked around , when she saw me, her eyes got really big and she screamed and started a motor and away she went. Guess she has never seen a man that turned into a fish before. Now I am living inside this great big fish with a guy by the name of Jonah!
