A Chicken that flew the coop

I have never seen a chicken that could fly, let alone one that could make a reservation on an air line. A travel agency and not ever a secretary was needed for this one. All she had to do was giggle or say yes or no, to a few questions, and she used the telephone to book her flight and it would be leaving on the after-noon of Tuesday June 15th 2;45 p.m.

Let us get this started so we understand that we are talking about a nine year old girl. She is an intelligent young lady that thinks and talks like she was much older. She pays attention to everything she hears and has little difficulty in remembering everything. At school, the class was discussing certain beautiful places on the earth and she decided to go see one of them for herself.

She never told anyone of her plans and when the day came to leave, she was ready. She left a message on a tape, for her mother and the rest of the family to listen too. With a small bag in hand she got into a taxi and told the driver to take her to the Air Port. Inside the terminal, at the check in desk, she handed a envelope to a young man. He looked down at her and smiled, so you are going to Belgium, are you! He finished doing what they do at this counter and then pointed to where the little girl should go to wait.

She sat and waited until the flight number was called to board the plane. When she got to where the stewardess was greeting the travelers and collecting the tickets, the stewardess looked down at the little girl and smiled and ask; Are you traveling all alone? and the little girl said “No”. Then she boarded the plane and the second stewardess helped her to her seat and put her small bag in the over head storage compartment. Then an older lady sat down in the seat next to her and said “Hi” my little one, and the girl said “Hi” right back to her. The no smoking sign went on and the fasten your seat belts sign came on. With in minutes the plane was in the air and the journey had began.

The lady and little girl talked of a number of things and the older lady soon knew that the little one was very bright and she enjoyed talking with her. It wasn’t long before the air plane was landing and the little girl asked, are there already? The older lady said no, we have to make a couple of stops before we go out over the ocean. We won’t get to our destination until morning.

Back home, they haven’t missed the little girl yet, but things will start happening soon. The mother had called up the stairs for the little girl to get washed up, as dinner would be ready soon. The mother called again for the girl to come. They sat down and waited for a few minutes, than the father went to the stair way and called. There was no answer so he went up to her room, but she was not there. So he stopped at the bath and knocked on the door. Still he got no answer. He opened the door, but no one was there. He came down and told the family she was not anywhere up stairs. The question was asked, did anyone know where she had gone or heard her say anything. After some discussion, they called the homes of some of her friends, again no one knew a thing about her. This was not like her to go some where without telling someone where she would be.

They were about to call the police station when the older sister found a tape with a message on it, that was left in the room. The message said, Don’t worry, I am okay. I have gone on a trip to see a beautiful place. I will be careful so don’t worry. I will be back home in a couple of days. They called the police station and told them that their young daughter was missing and about the note she left. The note didn’t say where she was going or how she was traveling or even give the time. Just not to worry!

The police started a routine check with local area searches. Then the search expanded to a county and state and soon the local TV and Radio stations were broadcasting and news paper headlines were all about the missing girl. It was soon to going out on national news reports.

The lady that sat in the seat besides this young girl heard the news and wondered if this was the same little girl. So she called the Air lines and Passed the information on to them. They would do some checking and make a return call to the lady. The lady called the over seas operator and Talked with her and ask that she contact the police in that town and the police could then call her if it was needed. It wasn’t long before the police and the little girls family were talking all together on the phone. After some discussion, it was decided that this was the same missing girl.

But no one knew when she had gone to after getting off the Air Plane. The American Ambassador to Belgium is informed and he gets things moving in that country, So far a search of that country hasn’t turned up anything.

It has been five days that the young girl has been missing, The little girls father and mother are getting ready to fly to Belgium so they can be on hand for that search, courtesy of the air line. All arraignments have been made and an American is going to accompany them. They are all standing, ready to board the air craft, as other flights are landing, The mother of the little girl feels someone tugging on her arm, she look down and sees her daughter, and the daughter says, Did you come to meet me and take me home? The news traveled fast and the world knew that the child had been found even though she wasn’t lost, She became the talk of the town and very popular with all the kids at school.

The rest of that year and the next year, a number of boys and girls were missing and no one appears to know how to stop this migration of children!

In this day and age, people tend to ignore what children are saying and don’t have time or want to get involved with them. Older people should not take anything for granted when
it comes to dealing with children. If something doesn’t seem right, Question it!
