The dictionary says time is; The duration, period of time, Occasion, point in time, appointed or proper time. meter of music, rate of time or to determine or record the time.
We have all heard someone say: Time is irrelevant. We also know that irrelevant depends on what one is talking about and who is talking. Time can mean many things to many people.
When a new born arrives, it will know little about time and it will cry when it needs something. The baby cries and if the father comes to attend, he will stick a nipple of a bottle in it’s mouth and walk away and the baby is still crying. If the cry is attended by the mother, she will check the babies diaper first and remove it. That feels so good to the baby, he or she will kick the feet and wave the arms around and smile. Then she gives the bottle and the little one goes back to sleep.
As the child grows older. They will learn things that you never taught them. When they want something and you are too busy, and you tell them to wait and you will do it with them, later. Then every two minute, they are again at your side asking and pleading with you. For them, to wait a few minute, is like a day of waiting.
Before you know it, they are old enough to help with the chores around the house, you ask them to do something for you and they say: “In a minute” an hour later, you are doing it your self. If you ask someone to do something for you, the time is different than when they want something from you. If you have a job and have to be at work by a certain time, you had better be there on time. No employer wants to pay you for the time you didn’t work. So they will check you in and check you out and keep a record of it.
In the mornings, the alarm goes off, it’s time for you to get up and start all those things that you have to do. First you wake the children and tell them it’s time to get up and get ready to eat breakfast and get ready to go to school. Next, you are in the kitchen with only one eye half open and thinking, “ where am I”? You fill the coffee pot with water and drop a few spoons of coffee into the coffee basket, The pot starts to perk and you watch the clear water turn dark. Once that is done, you pour a small amount into a cup and bring the cup up to your lips, it’s hot, but the taste helps to open you eyes a little more,
You go to the cupboard and get several boxes of dry cereal and set them on the table along with milk and sugar. You drop a slice or two of bread in the toaster, now where are those kids? You have to run up the stairs again and you find they are still in bed. You yank the covers off and get them up on their feet and push one or two of them into the bath room, That is when you smell the toast burning! It will take an act of god, to make all of this work. You can hardly wait for this time to pass so you can set down and let the sun warm your cold and tired body.
Later, Your child is setting in his or her seat at school. Thinking, how long will it be before we go out for recess. The teacher stands in front of the class, and is saying a silent prayer. A hand goes up, before any thing else is said, can I be excused to go to the bath room? and that has the rest of the class thinking the same thing. On the teachers desk is a note from the Principle, saying; that some time during this day, there will be fire drill and firemen will be at the school. So you pass this information on to the children. Now, all the students are wide awake and excited and they wait, and wait for the time to pass.
The teacher tells everyone to open their history book to page 119 and reads the first paragraph to the class, that is when the sound of the recess bell is heard, Before the teacher can say a word, most of the class is out the door. Never before, has anyone seen such a eager bunch of students. For the kids, the day drags by, but at home, the mother is rushing to do all the things she has to do, It’s noon and the beds haven’t been made or the laundry started. The table has been cleared and the dishes are in the sink, ( No dish washer here.) Cereal boxes are put away and the table top has been wiped clean.
That is when the phone starts to ring, for the first time. The town gossip has heard that the newly married couple, that lives next door to you, are having a fight. She is passing the word to everyone in town, and she had hopes that you could give her more information. (This just goes to show you, that gossip is still faster than the speed of light.) The word had gone out to everyone in town, even before the newlywed husband knew, he was in an argument with his wife.
When you have a Dental appointment, time moves much too fast. If you are waiting for a Check to come, time is never so slow. If you are having lots of fun, time goes too fast, When time goes too slow, chances are that you want it to move faster.
If you are in a hurry to get somewhere, and the traffic is too slow. That makes you angry and you start to swear and that didn’t help any at all. You run a red light and the police are waiting for you just across the intersection. From there on, everything moves in slow motion, or so it seems. What ever it was that you had to do, will have to wait for another day. You have to remember that Monday through Friday are all the same, only the date changes. Remember Murphy’s Law? How did that go now? If only you had stayed single, none of this could have happened.
Was that bottle of spirits half full or was it half empty, That is irrelevant, it makes no difference, just fill up your glass again and let things be the way they are!
Time comes and time goes, years pass and nothing has really changed. You have had a life and what ever happened can’t be changed. Things of the past is history, things to come are the future. Your kids are grown and gone and now you are dealing with Grand-kids and before long it will be Great grand-kids, Boy! that time really went by fast. Grand-pa has been laid to rest and most of your old friends are gone, You sold the house and gave all the you owned away to the family. something to remember you by.
Today is your forth year at the nursing home and it’s the day you get a bath. In comes a nursing assistant with a pan of warn water and a wash cloth, She wipes the cloth across your eyes and pats your face dry. Then you stick your finger tips in the water and dry them on a towel. That is all you get, it is called a speed bath and time is money and money is in short supply.
They dress you and put you in a wheel chair and push you to a day room. You fall asleep until they serve lunch, your teeth are still in the cup at your bedside, if that was lunch, it didn’t have a smell and you really couldn’t see what it was. Then you fall asleep again. They come and take you back to your room, but it looks strange to you, someone has moved things around or you are in a different room. But what the hell, they say time changes everything. You wonder why do they get up and put you back in bed every day? Why not just leave you in bed to start with? You can’t tell if it is daytime or night time anymore.
This is what you would have and do if you were single, so think twice and then think again, before you make any decisions. The life you save may belong to your kids or the county! Listen to the voices and swallow all the pills. You can never understand what is being said and if it wasn’t for the pills, you would die of starvation.
Sooner or later time will run out and stand still, Someone turn off the ight!
