Back in the early 1800’s and up in the North country, there was a land that few people ever knew about. There was a perfect valley that was surrounded by high rugged mountains on all sides, There was but one way in and one way out. Several Indian tribes, have lived there for many generations.
My story will involve only one of these tribes. They were called the Happy Tribe. They were loving and a peaceful people and the Chief of the tribe was named Black Cloud. Black Cloud’s first wife had passed on in child birth, she had already given the Chief two children, first a son and then a daughter, both had grown and then moved on.
Every one, that was a member of this tribe, was highly educated. Far more than the white man was. The Indians had created their own code to live by and built a society that was second to none. They had accomplished the building of a community that was envied by all. Buildings more modern than you would ever suspect. They had lights without heat, hot and cold running water and indoor plumbing and fresh air supply.
A very modern school and a high school, a collage of advanced teachings, a hospital that could train doctors and nurses and they came from all around to get special training. They could teach new techniques to do surgical procedures and a few things no one had ever thought possible. They had a Library, community center, parks, green houses and gardens for the community. Every one would work at a trade they could do the best. No money was involved, just old fashion trade, that was done on a blanket.
The old Chief found that he needed someone around to take care of him, There was one younger woman that had caught his eye, He had to trade five horses, to her father, to get her. She appeared to be happy with the arrangement. This younger wife gave the chief a Beautiful daughter and a younger son.
The daughter grew into the most beautiful girl that one would ever see. She smiled all the time and her smile was like the sunshine. When she smiled it made everyone smile. This spread like a wild fire and is how the tribe became known as the Happy Tribe. Her mother was known as White Fawn and the beautiful young lady was called White Feather. White Feather, was always smiling and the world smiled back.
The tribe was like one large family. In the evening everyone would set around an open fire, sing, dance, play games and talk, After the young had retired, the old men would set around and tell stories, most were untrue, Not one in the tribe had ever fought in a war and peace was found through-out the land.
This land remained a secret and few people every knew about it, but there were some and they would sometimes come to visit, be happy and smile. And wished that they could have stayed there.
The days have long passed and now we are living in the future. Man still thinks about a land of no crime, Love and honor. Many things have been said about such a land and man continues to dream of a land called Easter Island, or Christmas city, or Shangri-La, Atlantis and the Happy Indian Tribe.
This is not meant be humorous, just a dream of Happiness!
