Our Young People,

This will be considered to be in bad taste, but someone needs to do it. When I visit with my own kids and grandkids, I realize how much I have to be thankful for. What a joy it is to have them around and it makes me feel so sad for all those other kids who have no idea what life is really about.

One, maybe two, out of every hundred or so kids, will have these special qualities and when found it is considered to be very special thing. It makes you want to find the people responsible, thank them and give a big pat on the back.

What am I talking about? I am talking about teaching and preparing the young for a life in this world. About freedoms, the love of mankind, liberties, speech, and all those other things that some of us have in common.

You most likely knew someone that fought for these freedoms. These freedoms are for all men, women and children. You, the older people were supposed to teach your young about life, respect, being courteous and helpful to others. And to be thankful for all that they have. But some of you, “no” we should say most of you that gave birth to the last generation have failed to do what is essential! Your young ones are running wild with out knowing anything. Most of you don’t have any idea of what is going on in the lives of your children and they, themselves don’t know either!

Your young, apparently haven’t learned anything that a person should know. These young are having young of their own, and they do not know how or what to teach then. Being polite, considerate, and helpful are words they do not understand. Their heads are full of nothing but fun and selfishness.

Our schools do not teach the basics of life, things that they really need to know. The subjects taught in our schools, should be to teach right from wrong, to train the brain first, not to build ones physical condition or teach them to play a musical instrument. Parents need to teach their kids at home and test their knowledge to be sure the kids know about being polite, courteous and considerate.

Let me give an example! One day not long ago, I took my little dog for walk in the park. As we sat on a bench to rest, a group of young people were passing by. I greeted them, as any out going person would. My little dog is a happy little guy and loves people and shows it by wagging his tail. A couple of the girls stopped, bent down and were petting him, I continued to pass the time of day with these youngsters. Still not one of them had spoken a word. The girls giggled and the boys grinned as they poked each other on the arms while leaning on one another.

From the east, a elderly lady was pushing a wheel chair with a man in it. These young people did not move to make way for them to pass. They just stood there giggling and poking each other. The older lady had to push the wheelchair off the sidewalk on to the grass, which was not easy for her to do, to get around these idiots. Still, not one of them had spoken. I decided this is no way to treat older people and told them so. Than they all giggled as they moved on their way.

Then it came to me, they must be retarded and I wondered who was watching out for them.

As we continued our walk, we stopped to rest at another bench. We were about to witness a second encounter with five or six young adults, out jogging. The same lady pushing the wheelchair was a short distance away when she was met by this group of young runners, maybe a little older than the first group.

One of them told the lady this was a bike path and not meant for the walking people to use. This guy was outright nasty to the lady. He told her to get off the sidewalk and find another place to push the wheelchair, If I had been fifty years younger I would probably have gotten the tar beaten out of myself. I was really mad at these guys. I told the lady to carry a ball bat with her in the park. then if one of them people said anything, to use the bat on them.

It made me think, if this path is only for bikers, than why are they using it for running? Maybe the city should rename these paths, so it is for everyone and give the right away to no one.

If a person hasn’t learned something about life, is it possible that they haven’t been taught? Yet, ( I can only assume ) they were in high school and have yet to learn anything. Are these the type of people we want to apply for our jobs, or watch out for our future. We already have a lot of them in Washington.
Should a finger be pointed at you, for the lack of things that these young people were not taught? My parents made sure that I knew these things and I made sure that my children knew it also. My grand children, even the youngest at age five knows all this stuff.

What can be done about the lack of knowledge these young people do not have? First we must see to it that the new generation are taught these things and keep on teaching them for life. One never learns too much. Can an Idiot learn anything, so would be right to try and re-educate them. Is that possible, I have my doubts but then, what else can we do?

We, the citizens of Rapid City, have let far too many un-acceptable behaviors go by, in our children without trying to correct them. You may not be able to do anything, but you can tell the person that the child belongs to, and let the child and the parents know, that their behavior is not acceptable. Maybe a complaint can be made and a fine paid by the parents would get some action.

Will this be another one of those things that you just let go by, without doing something about it? Parents of the young, take a good look at you children, are they ready to be out in society?

You always get more with Love……..Than you do with hate…………..

Too bad you had such an unfortunate experience in the park. I agree that there are rude young people. But some of your generation (the greatest according to Brokaw) act in ways that are worse!I work with teens all of the time and they are awesome and considerate. L

Ben, loved your blogging. Somehow we have to give the young our time so they can appreciate their freedom. They have never known the dangers of communism and a mean world until now.
